Colliton should be given at least a month if not two. If we see the exact same pattern, time for a new conversation. But it isn't going to take one more period to know that the team that dressed last night is not going to make the playoffs. Can Connor Murphy and Forsling (assuming he is ever healthy) make that much of a difference on defense. Doubt it. Sikura? Another perimeter player going to make a difference?
Gustafsson is better than Rundblad in that he can actually skate with a purpose. And he is more of a threat offensively. Sadly, as of today that is where the differences end.

Canes get their 1st road win of the season in Chicago. Down 4-0 nice way to come out and run the opponents out of the building for your new Coach. Disgraceful. On to Philly to keep the winless streak intact. Philly next? Oh fuck. That's not even fair...

Also, I am really convinced that Barry Smith was a really bad idea...he is obviously nothing more than a corporate babysitter/spy.
Him planting his ass squarely in the middle of the bench, almost always the domain reserved for the head coach, speaks volumes...Colliton was relegated to the end of the bench. I initially fell for the veteran insurance policy sham the team was selling, but I just cant trust a thing these cocksuckers do...it say...and for good reason...its easy to tell when McD is lying...his lips are moving.
The more I read about this whole situation, the worse it smells.
Firing Q is one thing...and deserved...scapegoating him so upper management can wash its hands of any responsibility for this mess is fucking bullshit.

The Canes are a bipolar team. Looked like winners after the first 25, then gave up the forecheck, stopped skating and went all Yawney on the Hawks. Even a team as shitty as the Hawks managed to crawl back in it. Nothing to do with how good the Hawks were playing. The Hawks got handed the keys. The Canes are shit, and Brind'Amour sucks as a coach. But alas, the Hawks lost.
I did believe the Canes were going to choke until the very end. A bit of a let down not getting that buzzer beater.
Gustafsson, Davidson, Rutta were terrible. Jokiharju was his usual self: good with the puck, absolute midget league level without it.
Kunitz needs to retire. Toews needs to hit the 6x4 at least sometimes. Seriously, he got all the best chances for the Hawks, and airmailed it every single time. Saad was okay, but that line with him and Kampf and Fortin is so devoid of hockey IQ it's laughable. And those two can only ever score by freak accident / lucky bounce.
Hawks forwards can't defend. Canes D were left wide open. The first 25 minutes were painful to watch. Got schooled in so many ways.
I'm not passing judgement on Colliton based on one game. But he should have benched Gusto after the first period and probably Ward should have been put in anyway to start. It's his Canes - he probably had a lot of motivation going into this, while Crow looked pretty pissed off he had to play.

Ruuta looked like a decent pick-up for the first two and a half months last year. He has looked completely lost more often than not since then.
Is hoping that Murphy 2.0 is a meaningful upgrade over Ruuta, Davidson and Manning a pipe dream?

Even if that is why Smith is there, and he well could be, short of an epiphany by a whole bunch of fringe NHLers, there are way too many flies hovering over the roster mess that Stan has patched together. Every non-draft move the Hawks have made has pretty much moved them backwards over the last three years, with the only hope being the prospects that haven't been rushed forward. Otherwise a 19-yr old wouldn't be on-the-job training at the NHL level on the first pairing. It sort of says everything that Toews and Seabrook have been better than last year, Crawford has been healthy, and the team is much worse than two years ago.
