They are changing from that passive, pussy ass zone defense that Q had them playing, to a man-to-man system. That isn't going to take place over night, and there is going to be a learning curve involved. Especially for those that have been stuck in this shit for years. Last night was not surprising at all. Their defensive zone coverage will likely get worse, before it gets better.

Certainly possible. Just not sure it makes sense to judge until we see them play in a real defensive system... If they still look like shit in the defensive zone come the New Year, sure. Even with stacked rosters, the Hawks were NEVER good at defending in their own zone. Their puck possession was their defense. They always struggled with teams that rotated a bunch in their zone and had active defensemen, they just had the skill to overcome it...
Plenty of guys spoke to how difficult it was coming to the Hawks and adjusting. Basically having to throw out everything you were taught about playing defense growing up, to play Q's "system" of not clearing your net, not taking the body, and not blocking slap shots...

There is no talent on this team.
They lack a #1 center by good team standards.
They lack a #1 dman by good team standards.
They have half a top six (Toews, Kane, and ABD). Saad is a 3rd liner. AA is a 3rd liner center. Schmaltz disappears far too often to be counted on for anything plus even when he is playing well, he is soft which the Hawks have plenty of already.
Half the roster doesn't even belong in the NHL aka a recipe for one of the worse teams in the NHL, which is what we are seeing.
They have 3 guys on D that belong in the NHL (Joker, Keith, and Seabrook) with the latter two well past their better days on top of it.
Crawford hasn't looked bad, but his numbers are brutal because there is no team in front of him. So much for getting off coke, Corey.
The team as a whole is in a bad spot. Aging veterans with lots of miles and maybe a couple young pieces that are nice but if they have to carry the load, the team would still be early 2000 Hawks (ABC line, baby!).
How management can sit there and say this is a playoff team is 100 % the problem right now. You can't move forward with this until you come to terms with the fact that you need to do a complete tear down and rebuild.
One of 19 and 88 has to go to start. That much cap tied up into 1 player on a lottery team!?!?!?! Makes no sense.
2 won't be going anywhere until he develops an allergy to missing shots on goal.
7 is a please God let there be another lockout with compliance buyouts included move.
50 hopefully will be traded in the offseason or at the minimum will be retiring most likely after next season.
Stan will have money to spend but the nice thing is that no FA is gonna touch this shithole. Get used to more Ward, Manning, and Kunitz, but at least they will all be 1 to 2 year deals at most.

Look at guys like Daly and Kempny who thrived elsewhere because Q hates puck carrying dmen.. Good point. Basically make that first pass or fuck you. Sldo good point in even the best Hawks teams being pretty mediocre defending in their own end...their strength was always pushing the puck forward and playing keep away in the O zone. They could really cycle
