Trading down can be smart, but only if you have a good scout room and a sharp GM.
I can't believe no one is saying the Panarin for Saad move. I really was willing to give that move time to work, but Panarin has scored over a point per game for the BJs and has one less point this year than Saad has had the past two years combined.
The only other plus Saad should have brought to the table is his defensive prowess. He doesn't seem to be the same player he was before being shipped to BJ-land and while he's 2nd on the team among forwards in PK time, the Hawks' PK fucking sucks.

The panarin trade is almost too obvious. You look at it and can't believe it was real...
The byfuglien trade stands out for me since it was a marker that their cup run was over before it even began. Thankfully they proved me wrong but at the time I was very "awwww FUCK!" Seeing the return.

I went through the list and it's not that bad, for the most part. Obviously I would have done a better job, but that's beside the point. I'll give him a C-.
