He's the GM, its his job to pay attention to prospects. If his prospect pool sucks, its completely on him. Just like any other GM.
As for "not overpaying"....Erik Karlsson thinks youre adorable. Too much, too long. A worse contract than Seabrooks.

I meant undrafted prospects. You really think a GM of an NHL team watches junior hockey? Scouts do the leg work, and write up reports to the head scout. The GM reads the top few on the pile and hears the recommendations only.
Poor drafting reflects poorly on the GM, but mostly only because that means he chose the wrong people to be in charge of scouting. Not because he can't see talent.

I still dont get where the love for Doug Wilson comes from. 17 years as GM in SJ, zero cups. And look at them right now. And their prospect pool is ranked low. Lower than the Hawks on every site I've read. He does trades, good and many. There's a department for scouting, let them do their job - I don't know if any GM really follows prospects actively. He also doesn't overpay as bad as some GM's, can use the "Hammer" (see Labanc, Kevin). He can be shrude, doesn't shy away from offer sheets (Niemi/Hammer), and nobody pushes him around. He's no wizard, nobody is. But he is apt and able. And also a Blackhawks legend. He knows what it means to be a Hawk and to be an NHLer. I'll take him ahead of Stan any day. Loved Wilson as a player, a really nice man. But, 17 yrs? He must have pictures.

The Sharks are in a bad place. This might be the time to go on separate ways. Let the Sharks have Stan Bowman... Cup winning pedigree to a team with zero Cups, eh?

Other than figuring out how a fax machine works, what else is Stan doing these days that he can’t be more involved with the work the scouts are doing? Do the Hawks even scout in North America anymore?

Unless this is a recent pivot, giving up draft picks/young players for broken players like Shaw and DeHaan doesn’t fit the narrative.

De haan I can kind of forgive, he's a good d man when he's healthy...and the hope was he'd find a way to be healthy this season. But yeah, he's broken.
Shaw was a play for the fan base. A healthy cheaper alternative I'm sure could have been had but...a name for the armdancers to cling to...that's a big deal in stan's world.
I'm shocked he didn't find a way totake Andrew Ladd back at the deadline. Lol...fucking mucous stained shitbag that our GM is probably tried.

IMO, the Hawks drafting has been better than the Sharks. And given each GM has hired his scouts, thats not exactly a ringing endorsement for Wilson.

stan sucks at drafting
plus player development
plus identifying organizational need

series of moves in which one move is completely unrelated or uncomplimentary to the one that preceded it.
