Lehner was the only reason this game was so close. Vegas have 4 lines of speed...their offensive zone entries are a thing of beauty...as is the way they use both dmen to break out of their zone.
Vegas have a huge size advantage...and know how to use it...guys like Tuch and Stephenson and Reaves can all skate, buy dominate physically.
Mark Stone and Reily Smith are both really smart players.
Shea Theodore is going to be a stud...the offense totally flows through him.
Hawks giving up goals in last minute of the first and first minute of the second was really all she wrote...vintage Colliton.
Hawks have a long way to go to get back to contender status. However, they may be a little further ahead of plan than I thought. Hawks were pretty badly outplayed and overmatched in this series, but they hung in their and competed hard. In the course of a year, they have really overhauled their team speed. Depth is still a problem...especially on D...that is going to continue to be a problem for years to come.
Keith is still a force, at times, but he us the only legit top 4 guy on the roster. Matta and DeHaan can make a solid 3rd pair, but thats it. Koekkoek is a turd. Boqvist is an offenseman...Nick Leddy lite...hes an embarrassment defensively...and his physical game...oy ve. Murphy is so frustrating. He is a physical beast, but plays so small. Zero physical presence. He absolutely sucks in his own zone...fuck that trade.
As for Crow, he can still put up a gem every 3rd or 4th night, but he is far too old, broken and inconsistent to invest in going forward. If he takes a year, maybe 2, at maybe $2 or $2.5 mil per, maybe you bring him back...but I would be surprised if he would do that.
They have some scoring depth at F but need to get much better personnel on their bottom 2 lines.

Even Carpenter, who I still think was a reasonable pick-up at his price tag for the bottom six, was badly exposed against a much quicker, bigger team. I say that knowing he was the only Blackhawk out there beside Caggiula finishing checks, when he could actually catch the player to do so. If the benchmark is Vegas, I'm not sure Carpenter fits longer term unless he is winning a lot of faceoffs.
Kampf and Highmore despite great effort were easily knocked off the puck multiple times. The third line was overall pretty useless, especially when Vegas had second change and when Nylander was dressed.
I'm glad the team had this opportunity. Boqvist needed the personal eye opener and hopefully it will make a difference in the speed of his development. Same with Kirby Dach, though mostly he did not look out of place during this series.
I would give Debrincat a pass for the first year under the big dollars pressure cooker - I think he will come back. I'm not gung-ho about Strome after seeing him on this stage - he is not a rookie at this point.

I soooooo wish we had a new GM coming in. A fresh builder for the roster is what it needs to add the relevant pieces, not the same old Stan-isms (trades for potential on guys that are currently failing, small swedish everything, USHL players...)
But that ain't happening. especially after this little "run". A 12th place finish in a normal year, missed playoffs again, MAYBE he moves on. But this little bit of extra hockey has made the lemming fanbase excited again.

Also, the Knights best players were better than the Hawks IMO. Tough to win when the two $10.5 million dollar guys are not the best players on the ice.

Boqvist looked awful but that’s more on the GM and coach playing a 19 year old dman in the NHL playoffs. It’s not like Adam was a top 3 pick. He needs time to bulk up and build confidence. More AHL seasoning is required.

Boquist played enough with the big club now that sending him back to the A for a year might ruin his confidence completely. But that's on Stan et al, he needs absolutely needs development time.
