National game on NBCSN with the #1 team of Tirico, Boucher and Eddie O. Probably practicing their gig for the outdoor games this weekend. Wangs are bad so hopefully Hawks can win a game in regulation?

The Hawks are in a playoff position! And it doesn't even matter if you look at actual points or win percentage! Have to keep on beating Detroit to stay on top. Same principle as marriage.

Back to Lankinen tonight I would think.
3-1 Hawks

For me it depends on if they re-work the draft lottery, which will give the bad-bad teams a better shot at getting the top pick (it's being discussed).
If the Hawks miss the playoffs they will still have a better record than several teams (I think), and that will give them a decent draft spot but not a real shot at the top pick.
Making the playoffs would be a nice confidence boost for the kids but Tampa will murder them in four. But if it doesn't affect their draft position too much since they would make it at the bottom end of the qualifying teams (I think), no real harm done.
So it depends on what they do with the lottery.

Back to Lankinen tonight I would think. 3-1 Hawks Kevin Lankinen will start for the Blackhawks tonight in Detroit. No word yet on any other lineup changes.

Keeping the Hawks off the outdoor schedule - priceless.
We'll see if the Hawks can find a solution to the shutdown Kane-Debrincat strategy, because the farther we work towards the spring, the more teams will adopt it. Don't take penalties and target #s 88 and 12.
They need a highly productive draft the next two years and it is hard to see that happening to the extent it needs to if they outperform this season.
Hawks 1 Detroit 1 Wings win the shootout.

Hawks are ending a nice easy stretch of schedule here and next week will start to play the top 3 teams in the division...Bolts, Canes and Panthers. That will put an end to the playoff talk.

How are the Panthers so good anyway?

Not that whomever gets it will go anywhere, but it's definitely in play.

I am not buying this team as a playoff contender just yet.
Their metrics on the defensive side of the puck are horrific.

But Kevin Lankinen is on the defensive side of the puck.

Lankinen has been terrific overall and the kid defensemen this year have made much more impact than the kid defensemen a year ago, but the real question is whether the Hawks can sustain this when the going is tougher in the playoff sprint, and can they really out-point Nashville, Columbus and Dallas. Without #19, doubtful. With #19, doubtful. Not winning enough big faceoffs. Not enough depth scoring. Both will eventually either be rectified or you will see the team head south over time.
The Hawks aren't in the same hemisphere with Tampa Bay or Carolina this season if both teams have comparable injuries. We'll see about the Stars the next time they play. Florida has more weapons than the Hawks and a veteran goalie with pedigree.
Loving the effort so far but realistically this won't last unless some of these players not Kane/Debrincat/Kubalik consistently raise the level of their game.
