This has to be one of the greatest 1st year expansion teams ever? I'm not looking that up but they are 27-10-2 + 28 goal differential. Everyone keeps waiting for the collapse and let's hope it starts tonight as The Hawks return to The MaaaadHouuuussse. BTW The Hawks play 8 out of next 9 at home so needless to say this home stand is critical for the future of this so far mediocre season.

It's not a mediocre season when you're in last place. Wild card or outside the bubble is mediocre. Last place is a bad season. And that's what it's been so far.
The good thing is, the pack is tight in Central so the Hawks have it in their own hands to overtake some teams.
Not tonight though. The Golden Knights are a powerhouse team and will again outwork the Hawks, and the Hawks just don't have enough of a skill advantage to overcome that.
The Knights played last night, so I guess the Hawks get Subban tonight. But it won't make a difference if the overall effort ain't there. 3-1 Knights, all three of their goals come in the first period.

Oesterle scores the lone Hawks goal. Hawks best PP d-man. As sad as it seems...

Guarantee the hawks get outworked. Gallant has done as masterful job installing that system.

Vegas relies on a lot of speed, which feels like a big weakness to the Hawks this year.

Also quick note on "mediocre" vs "last place":
Hawks are currently 17th in the league if you go by points percentage. They have some games in hands on a lot of teams. But points percentage at least lifts them above Colorado (18th). Seems a lot of central teams are doing well in that regard.

The Knights are rocking the Hawks. It's gonna be a long night.
In the NHL the hardest working team always wins. Only if both teams work as hard, does the more talented team win.

If someone never watching hockey before this game was asked which team was the three time cup winners and which team was the expansion team, the answer would be "The team that just had a 3-on-1 is the three time cup winner"...ridiculous.
12-2 shots for Vegas so far. Could definitely be a long evening for the hawks. Vegas is not your father's expansion team...

The Knights are rocking the Hawks. It's gonna be a long night. Sure looks that way. Hawks haven't shown much of anything so far.

2-0 Marchessault. Nice shot. I still don't understand how Tallon just let him go for free.
The Knights came to play.

Really good last couple of minutes by the Hawks. Actually gives me hope.
I do think it's very tough for any team to keep up the level of speed and hustle like what the Knights just displayed. They will tire, they will make mistakes and hopefully slow down.
Still clearly the better team, but the Hawks can strike if the Knights lose focus.

Third will be interesting.
