Ulfie was hired to work with the Hawks d-men and he manages the rotation and d-pair changes in-game. How much of this season's failure is on him? The D has been rubbish, and it can't just be the talent. There have been teams with less name value that have gotten more out of their players. Inexplicably, the PA members seem to be high on the Robocop: What's going on here?

I've been poking fun in other topics but yeah... Players are certainly mis-guided here. I guess when they did this in 2012, a lot of their picks here didn't come to fruition.

If you blame Ulf for poor d. Then you have to ditch him. Since you resigned the whole d corps.
I personally think it's combination. None of the younger guys imo are more than decent 3rd pair maybe a fringe4th guy.
They have been atrocious on the p.p. just inhumane.

As a fellow Swede he should be expected to get more out of Gusto, Dahlstrom, Forsling etc than the clown show we see every night. As much as Dineen sucks at putting together a PP strategy that can score, Samuelsson has also failed at his job. I think they are both responsible for this season, and Q is responsible for both of them, so I wouldn't mind changing the entire (Hartford Whalers) coaching staff in one go. Bring back Haviland.

You can lead a horse (or 4-5 shitty D-guys) to water, but you can't make them drink. Pretty sure Ulfie's not telling them to pinch regardless of situation, and get so constantly outta position.

Stan Bowman is to blame for the train wreck defense, end of discussion.

I actually think all of the hawks d men besides dahlen are nhl quality. Just not all of them on one team. And most of them are fringe guys. 5 thru 7 types. I'm a bit miffed he's already resigning them...
Rebuilding or retooling. Neither makes sense.

I agree with that Brendan.
The current issues are they don't really have an established #1 anymore. Keith has fallen off, but I won't protest too much if someone wants to say Keith is still one of the best 31 d-men in the league today.
Then after that, it's just a bunch of 5-7 guys, as you said. Not having anything in the middle to help out with that is the real killer here.

I’m just glad Stan was in such a rush to lock up Gus and Ruuta before other teams lining up had a chance to make a run at them in the summer.

Other GMs must be hitting the bottle tonight knowing they can't score Gustafsson in free agency anymore.

According to Wyshinski, only one of top 5 assistants named in 2012 got a head coaching gig & it was Dave Ramsey, who wasn't exactly amazing in his year & half in Ottawa (to be fair, that franchise is a shitshow). It should also be noted that Q got the most votes as best coach & players like the charity point by a margin of 4 to 1, so it's fair to say that most players' opinions don't match up with most of us here.

Yeah, we were reading the same thing regarding Wysh.
I heard a decent explanation of why the players probably like the point system. (Maybe from the same Wysh article?) The current system at least provides the illusion that more teams (more players) are in the hunt for the playoffs longer. ...I just wonder if the players are smart enough to figure that out on their own and voted based on that realization. I'm skeptical of that, haha.

In hunt, more money for production.
I'd bet league wide fans like the bonus point. And 3v3.
