I pray that the Hawks let Jokiharju marinate a season in Rockford. Burning a ELC year just like they did for Debrincat would be foolish with this roster. Rockford also has a chance of being a winning team unlike the roster Stan assembled in Chicago. Absolutely. What a well thought post...We are all shocked.

Playing in Rockford counts against the ELC, he just gets paid less if ELCs are 2-way (I don't recall if they are or not). Only way his ELC doesn't start is if a player is in juniors or Europe.

This makes sense. I mean, a ton of players make a career out of playing in the AHL. Would they not ever get out of ELC? EDIT: ELC's are always 2-way.

That makes sense too. Most players on ELCs spend time in the AHL, so obviously the owners are going to try to pay as little as possible.

Yes, you burn an ELC year either way, but there is no reason to rush Henri to the NHL where in the case he turns out to be a stud early on, you are gonna pay him big dollars before the team is ready as a whole to compete for another playoff push. Hawks have more to gain by letting him mature a bit more, bulk up, and ride the bus in Rockford than playing on a shit team in Chicago.
Winning in the NHL is all about windows of opportunity due to the hard cap. Rushing prospects to the NHL when the overall team just isn't there yet would cause more harm than good.

You are very philosophical today.

Jokiharju has been playing in Portland for 2 years now and he's at an okay weight, so I'm guessing he's already been fed enough PED's to enter the NHL. I think it's a matter of if he's good enough.
And wasn't he drafted from the WHL, so he can't be sent down to the AHL anyway?
I don't think he has much to learn from juniors anymore, so maybe NHL is the way to go? I don't know. Nobody knows. But let's see him at camp and give him a fair chance. Not sure he can beat the three RD's that have 1-way deals (Murphy, Rutta, Seabrook), but since when has an overload of righties stopped Q from playing them all? Murphy already spent most of last year playing the left side.

Murphy already spent most of last year playing the left side. Hawks don't have that wave of prospects that that they need to sustain long-term success at this point. Patience is key with the recent draftees given that the farm is just being built up again after many years of it being plundered. Hawks need to let the farm simmer for a few years before they can make another push. Not only do they need to hit on some of the prospects they draft, they need the depth which accumulates over a few years in order to trade from to fill holes that the roster will have. At the same time, the contracts to 2, 7, 88, and 19 are further diluted by cap increases (maybe a buyout gift will also be in play). The year after next is when the salaries on the aforementioned deals begin to plummet. That's when GMs with teams that they think are close make stupid decisions and trade for the Hawks' geriatric core. I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, btw.

I think you just ice the best possible roster. I mean, people pay to see the product. If you lose, you lose. But you don't hold back.

He burns a year off his NTC regardless, but if he plays less than 10 games, it delays a year of free agency.

And wasn't he drafted from the WHL, so he can't be sent down to the AHL anyway? He was loaned to Portland from his SHL team so he's not bound by CHL transfer rules.
