I think this is the real question/problem:
Could the Hawks have a "too many cooks" issue as JJ suggests where they think they are all better than they actually are? Possibly.
But....
The Hawks are one of the busier teams when it comes to making trades. So I don't know how much stock I put into it that they can't get things done. It's just more about whether those things they do get done are good decisions.
So the real problem: The Hawks aren't ready to embrace rebuild mode. That's what led to that trade. Just cast aside your opinion on what you think the Hawks should do for a minute in this hypothetical situation:
Say your are managing a team that's on the cusp of pushing for the Cup. You need that last finishing touch. Defensively, you've been a bit shakey lately as well as the PK. Who do you add to your roster to complete your roster? Kruger or Hinostroza?

Neither...and LOL at the thought of this team being on the cusp of anything but a deep dark precipice

Fully agreed on just about every word there.
But you must choose.

The Hawks being busy is as much a function of the cap debacle since 2010 as it is adding pieces for a Cup run.
Kruger adds more of what the Hawks need right now defensively and in the face-off circle, with one giant caveat - is he the same player and who is the Frolik or Desi that is on his line that makes him that much tougher to play against?
It looks to me more like a "we'll solve one of your problems in exchange for you solving one of ours, and you have to sweeten it because, well, that is what you do. Of course if the prospects from the Coyotes materialize it could be a coup for Stan. It hasn't been playing out that way lately....

Maybe we should look at this differently - if the Hawks are not going to be a playoff team and are sellers at the deadline, which of Kruger or Vinnie is likely to interest a team that is a legitimate contender, because in theory, that yields the biggest return. Kruger in a contract year with two Cups, or VH?
Unfortunately, the fact that MK has gone from Carolina to Arizona to the Hawks is not a testament to teams pining for him....

John Hayden is probably a poor man's Desjardins, just as Hinostroza was a poor man's Frolik.
Also, I just took a look at Capfriendly, to check out some of the names on the roster right now. WTF is this team? I have no idea how to form lines here.
I'm guessing...
DeBrincat - Schmaltz - Kane Kunitz - Toews - Saad - Anisimov - - Kruger - Hayden
WTF am I supposed to do with two (there's two?!) Sikuras, Edjsell, Schroeder, and Kampf?

Nobody wants him at 3 million cap hit (Stan effect). Provided he plays like in the past, he'll be traded at the deadline due to UFA status.

Kunitz is a 4th line player playing with Toews and Saad. Sounds like a Stan Bowman team.

I just really don't know how this trash fits together.

I just really don't know how this trash fits together. Given how much Q scrambles the lines, even if it fit like a glove there is no evidence based on recent history that it would matter. Here is a stab: Saad-Toews-Sikura Debricat-Schmaltz-Kane Kunitz-Anisimov-Kahun (can Kahun skate with speed?) Kampf-Kruger-Hayden Keith-Murphy Gustafsson-Seabrook Manning-Ruuta In the "new NHL" I'm not sure how that 3rd line fits.

Can you imagine how much worse this team would be if Debrincat didn't come out of nowhere?

Can you imagine how much worse this team would be if Debrincat didn't come out of nowhere? Or Panarin, even though they couldn't afford him long-term....
