I expect if 'we' pick a D-man at 8, he will be here at least to start the year...This is a pretty heavy D-draft I think. Are you crazy? "We" have 6 dmen on one way deals, to say nothing of all the amazing guys on 2 way deals. And don't forget Calder Cup playoffs breakout star Adam Clendening, who's an RFA. That guy is going places! Plus dmen traditionally develop slower, so it's less likely that an 18 year old dman will be ready for the NHL. 'We' already sent Clendening other places...I liked Dobson during the Memorial Cup.

'We' already sent Clendening other places...I liked Dobson during the Memorial Cup. I liked him too. Would have liked to have seen a little more zip on the passes. But he knew where it needed to go and how to get it there.

Would you take on the last year of Kruger's deal with a 2.775 cap hit to be rid of Hossa's last 3 years? I can't figure out why the Yotes made a playoff season trade for him (other then to maybe try to entice EOL into extending with another Swede on the team?). Hawks need a bottom 6 center. Worst case, you send Kruger down to the AHL and lessen his cap impact and are still done with Hossa and the extra Hoops LTIR adds the next 2 years and half of Hossa's cap this year. Might be a way of moving Hossa without having to attach a decent asset. We pay Kruger the 2.3 million he is owed while Arizona pays Hossa his 1 million a year the next 3. Arizona will loss 7 million in fake cap with Bolland and the Smith buyout in their last years and even if they extend OEL, I just don't see anything they are spending a ton of capspace on and will be a team hoovering around the cap basement.

How about bringing back Capt. Darling if it meant getting Faulk as a sweetener?

How about bringing back Capt. Darling if it meant getting Faulk as a sweetener? It would depend on how much the Canes retain and or the pieces needed from the Hawks. Darling retaining 2 million with Faulk for the Nashville first and some non premium prospects/picks...sure. Retain a million on Darling and take the Hossa contract, then Faulk for the Nashville pick and some additives works for me. Anisimov mixed in somehow to move his cap....some scenerios that work. The thing with Faulk is as much as he would help on the powerplay and generating more O from the backend, he can be equally as bad at keep pucks out of his own net. I also lean toward the D we need to add is probably left handed. Seabs is untradeable (and we had better hope the next CBA has a compliance buyout or Hossa's allergy is contagious), Murphy is signed for 4 more seasons on the right side, and Jokiharju may be able to help as early as this season (you would hope by the following season at the least). Rutta and Seabs give us decent right hand point options on the PP for this season.

Crawford for Darling and Faulk? Nope. If you are trading Crow, he is healthy (or Carolina wouldn't take him). Darling was a complete bust as a starter for the first time in his life and his contract has negative value. Healthy Crow is at worst equal to Faulk in value if now worth a bit more...so you would have to account for the negative value of Darling.

Kruger fucking sucks and is one if stans worst contracts...plus hoss's gives you LTIR relief...plus Hossa can't be traded because if he retires early, Hawks get fucked by recapture

I do t think the retire thing is a problem anymore. The NHL and everyone else is playing wink wink with it.

What if his new team makes mandatory PR events and suspend him without pay when he no-shows, and Hossa decides to just retire because fuck doing any actual work anymore?

Hossa is not gonna retire and throw away 3 million dollars. The team that trades for him wants the 5 million plus cap hit for free. They would lose that if he retires.
Are we not getting it yet?

Kruger fucking sucks and us one if stings worst contracts...plus boss's gives you LTIR relief...plus Hissa can't be traded because if he retires early, Hawks get fucked by recapture Agree that Kruger sucks (even more at a 2.75 caphit), but Hossa's deal is a pain in the ass at this point. You have to be compliant on day one of the season before you can use any of the LTIR to go above the cap, you can't compound LTIR for trade deadline space, and LTIR can't be used to absorb bonus overages (that then are always carrying forward). Kruger is only 28 years old....no reason he can't be what he was before...a serviceable 4th line/PK center....all be it over paid. Worst case....he blows and you have a sub 2 million handicap this year (by sending him down) instead of Hossa's 5+ and you are done screwing with it all the next 2 Summers. Hossa isn't "retiring", he is clipping coupons and collecting 1 million a year with probably a wink and a nod that he will continuing getting a million+ a year to show up for the convention and on his bobblehead night after his contract is up like Hull and Savard.

I would trade Hossa for Kruger straight up. Kruger is signed through next season at a cap hit of 2.8 million but his salary is only 2 million. The Yotes get Hossa for the next 3 seasons for 3 million in cash but a cap hit of over 16 million. That's a huge win for the Yotes in terms of their motives. The Hawks need to dump Hossa because LTIR is a pain in the ass and basically handicaps you in the summer. They can afford to eat Kruger's 2.8 million cap hit for 1 season. Kruger likely plays better back in Chicago and would be an ideal trade deadline depth acquisition for a playoff team given that he is a UFA at year's end.
Hossa + swap of AHL fodder for Kruger + swap of AHL fodder. Maybe one can stroke the Yotes' cock with a swap of late round picks which allows the Yotes to move up a round essentially.
Kruger to playoff team for 3rd-5th round pick (think Wingels trade) at deadline.
