Is it even worth buying at the deadline this year?
Not enough moves out there to fix the holes on this team and they aren’t competing against ATL or LA, even if they had home field in those series.
Inept FO management since 2016 has cost them severely.

They just got Derek Holland and his 5+ ERA. Theo’s got this.

Gotta get a bat at the top of the order. Cubs are back in Home Run or nothing mode. a 2-run HR would be better than all these solos.

Inept FO management since 2016 has cost them severely. They should white flag it and start selling some of the core. Time to rebuild as this window has shut for good.

First order of business should be to fire Maddon today. This team needs to get angry/shocked more than anything. Then, I would trade Quintana since he is a free agent and he’s not coming back. Russell has no trade value so I would just DFA him and give him a clean slate elsewhere. Wouldn’t be against trading Schwarber either. Kris Bryant is gonna want 300 million. Not worth it so sell him to the highest bidder before you get nothing. Keep Rizzo, Baez, and Contreras as the only hold overs.

Is Baez even worth signing to a mega contract? I don’t want someone whose OBP is the same as their batting average and has no concept of the strike zone.
Just too many holes to patch up this year, but I don’t see them selling realistically with the amount they’ve already invested. Just hope Theo doesn’t screw it up even more so than he has the past few years.

Rough crowd. Cubs won't blow it up as long as they can be at the top of the Central. Today, Schwarber so far 2HR-7RBI....Value never higher.

An outfield of Schwarber-Almora-Heyward is not striking fear into any opposing pitchers. That is where an upgrade is needed, and probably in center field. Until Almora shows the spot is his. He has had the chance this year and blown it thus far. Somebody who can draw walks and can hit would be nice as well as not being a defensive liability. Almora is great in the field but .250 with few walks is not acceptable.
