He is the only veteran on the team that could land a tangible asset in return. Kane has an NMC, but with Q out it's a sign the window has closed, and he's not married, no kids, etc. He would probably waive, if asked. Then you could potentially ask for a future star player in return.
He is also turning 30 in a few days. His value won't continue to be this high forever. You wait too long and you get way less value.
I think the question is, can this core win another Cup? If the answer is no, you should rebuild. Immediately. Toews, Keith etc won't net a franchise player in return, might as well let them retire as Blackhawks, and show the ropes to new players as long as they are here. But Kane... Kane has value. Real value. Value that could turn this franchise around, potentially. Speed up the process of building a new young core. They already have a new young coach who people don't necessarily expect instant success with.

I would say no unless somebody more capable was tasked with generating a fair return for the Hawks. It is not in Stan's DNA.
How many teams can absorb at $10.5 million cap hit that are actually good teams?

Zero point zero chance this team can win another cup...I would trade Paddy Cakes for a package...no idea if he would accept any sort of trade.
The quicker they blow up this core, the better...but I also seriously doubt management would even consider trading the pride of armdancing nation.

You'll never get fair value for a superstar of his caliber. You just won't, even ignoring who the GM is.
That said, there's no fucking chance McEgo/Rocky will allow Kane to be traded. You think the armdancers going nuts about Q was bad? It'll be 10x worse for Kane. It would pretty much be waving the white flag and seeing season ticketholders and tv viewers bail until the Hawks got good again.

I don't think anyone on this team is untouchable anymore. Most are untradable because of their contract value vs. production, or simply because of Stan's love affair with NTC. Kane and Crow are the only ones I see bringing back anything of value. The problem I see with any trade though, whether it's Kane/Crow or someone else, is do you trust Stan to get a fair/good return in picks or prospects? Furthermore, will he be able to get equal return on the picks when they're used? Not sure what the draft class is looking like for next year, but are they likely to get quality offensive production out of even a first round draft pick if he was able to acquire one that wasn't in the bottom half of the round? I know the team needs the most help on defense, but trading Kane would be like trading away their entire offense IMO. Where do you get that back? I'm just afraid of a decade of another ABC line being trotted out there.

Nope. Won't get value for what he brings.
As noted. Also, Stan...

I also think that CaptJonny would bring a decent return right now. He's off to a good start, skating better than anyone can remember. A team looking for a leader could do worse.

Can anyone cite, in cap era times, where a former dynasty has sold off its prime assets and got back chips that got them back into the cup race?

Seriously Gary, teams dont trade like they used to. And they dont give premium returns for players based on past performance. Imo, trying to trade away the core to build another core doesnt seem to work today.
