I'm starting to think Stan has lost all his scouting reports (pro and amateur), save for one single page that has players whose names start with a K. So he is making the most of a very limiting situation.

The game yesterday was actually pretty fun to watch. You know the Hawks, so you know the Caps would come back.
I would keep Keith and Seabrook together for the rest of the season. If Joker has to be "protected" and is going to be playing his weak side, he is better off in Rockford. Otherwise Keith-Seabrook, Dahlstrom-Murphy and Joker-Gustafsson and run three pairings with comparable ice time. KK can be the swing guy.
Also sort of ironic that Anisimov, who is not the best face-off guy, is season-to-date running a higher percentage than anyone not named Toews. I do like Strome and think with time he can fill that 2nd center spot. But at least one of the other two needs to be over 50%. Look at me pretending that this is a team priming for the playoffs....
For that reason alone (in addition to not great on the PK) Kampf and Kruger both probably need to go in favor of somebody that can stay consistently over 50% in the dot, since both seem suited for the checking/energy line. And preferably someone who can skate AND stay on their skates when a mild breeze is in the air.
Also, if all they are going to be able to secure for Gustafsson is a 3rd round pick, they may as well keep him around through this contract. The assembly line of undersized, offensive defensemen is at least a year or two away, and nobody is going to pay to see a shitty team AND a team that cannot score. The current PP at least gives them a fighting chance when the goaltender stands on his head enough to keep them in the games.
Assuming ALL the draft picks pan out, the Hawks are probably two successful lottery drafts and "goat festival-free" team management from even being relevant.

The 2kd and 3rd pairs you propose are just awful..especially that 3rd pair...Neither Gustaffson or Joker are worth a fuck in their own end...its pathetic...Murphy and Dahlstrom are barely a 3rd pair on a real team...Keith is a 2nd pair anchor, but Seabrook is now AHL level.
Forsling is a fucking pylon.
I do not think there is a worse d corps(e) in the league...and that league is the AHL.

Maybe Joker-Dahlstrom and Murphy-Gustafsson then, but I'd keep Seabrook with Keith. Seabrook-Gustafsson will be a goal yielding turnstyle in a man-to-man defense. Who knows if Koekkoek is really better than any of the above - he probably has no chance if he's not playing on his strong side. I like Colliton, but I do question why he'd take his worst defensive defenseman (Gus) and compound that by playing him on his off side. If it isn't the worst blue line in the NHL, it is damn close.
