They are not one player away from anything...despite how badly they want us to believe Panarin and a healthy Crow put them back in contention. They would have zero more points with Panarin. Scoring has not been a problem at any point in the season. A healthy, prime, Crawford would have made a difference in the standings, but not enough to make this team relevant. You need a time machine so you can put Keith and Seabrook through it, plus you need a top pair D (Hjammer) and a top line winger (Hossa), who can both kill penalties because a 31st ranked PK won't beat anyone in a 7 game series.

They are two solid top 4 defensemen and one 60-point player away at a minimum. And there are probably at least a dozen other teams that can say the same. The one thing they have going for them is Cup experience, but it has worn the hell out of the ones who remain.
The goaltending isn't going to steal many games on its own. They are still facing way too many quality chances against.

The one thing they have going for them is Cup experience Yet one of the few summer additions Stan made included Chris Kunitz. A man with no legs left, and whose sole contribution to a team can ONLY be his Cup experience. "Hey Toews, hey Duncs! Come here, you better listen to this guy, he'll teach you winning."

totally agree with last post. dont think those thinge were unattainable at begining of season.
i also dont think they can be top 3 pick bad next year really..so do we accept a lucky lotto bounce? to MAYBE grab a an impact player or a first round exit?
i think theyre too good to totally rebuild, and i hate seeing kaner play on a basement team for next 5 years...

Hawks would have done themselves well to secure more lotto balls by losing. But since that's out the window with all this winning going on lately, it will be a couple of extra years of mediocrity. A Jack Hughes could have accelerated the rebuild by that much. And "all this winning" probably won't actually result in a playoff spot. i think theyre too good to totally rebuild, and i hate seeing kaner play on a basement team for next 5 years... His trade value is very, very high right now. Just sayin'. Why waste one of the greatest playoff performers of our time on a non-playoff team? Hawks could instantly restock themselves with one move, if the move was made by a capable GM.

So Hawks can't beat playoff teams and beat up on the little sisters of the poor. It's called being mediocre and won't get the Hawks anywhere other than wasting Kane and Toews for the remainder of their careers.
