Jets are the best team in the league right now.
Yes, the Jets.
If the hawks get a point out of this it’ll be a miracle. If the hawks lose by less than three it’ll be a miracle.
Jets 6 hawks 0

Zhamnov scores 4 and Khabibulin shuts out the Hawks. Zhamnov is seen next on milk cartons after he disappears for the rest of January.

That 92-93 Jets team was stacked. Even had Eddie O!

Speaking of Khabby, he unretired in December and now is goaltender in KHL at the age of 50. Could he be worse than Soderblum? He will accept payment in vodka.

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS. Oh wait that's that other Jets teams shout. Too bad this one doesn't have Aaron Rodgers to help make them dysfunctional. I think what's left of The Hawks are guys that will work their asses off but obviously will always be a day late and a dollar short. About all we can ask for right now.

4-0 Jets. Kurashev passes to the slot with no other hawks around at least once.

I didn’t see the game but I assume the hawks played decent enough for the first 55 minutes or so.
I also assume the last five were exactly like the majority of 80’s and 90’s teams, who were traditionally prone to lose road games exactly like this. Sigh.
Sharks won so that helps with the ping pong ball contest, at least.

So sad. Great effort, no result. Mrazek was the best player on the ice. The Hawks just got outmatched and did all they could. Especially the first 40 minutes looked fine. Outside of the first 5 minutes when they came in fast and hard (easy, Jim), the Jets didn't look like they could crack the Hawks.
Defense was really good, too, in their own zone. Tinordi, Murphy, Vlasic, Megna, even Korchinski and Zaitsev... solid work. But there are a couple of forwards who suck at marking their man and preventing them from making plays (Kurashev, Reichel). Still, it was a really good effort for most all of them. The only way this team can win a hockey game is by outworking the opponent, and they pretty much did that for 55 minutes last night. Once the Jets got their shit together, it was only a matter of time.
Powerplay is hopeless. When they still had Bedard, they were like one playmaker away from having a dangerous PP. Now even if they got a guy who can create openings, there's no-one to finish those plays.
Anyway, last night was about Mrazek. Petr Fucking Mrazek. He nearly stole the game.
