Failed to beat Calgary again. Even firing Q, and getting a nice pick in the offseason, I doubt this team makes the playoffs even next season. You don't know until you see what effect a new voice, new system, and a different approach to the game has on the guys that are here right now. You can see that a lot of these guys don't give a fuck, and are just going through the motions. The locker room has been lost for weeks... The play at the end of last season and in the playoffs was a fucking huge red flag against the coaching staff, but nothing was done. The coach always, always goes before the players. Everyone has to realize at this point that Q should have been canned after last season, but it is what it is. Shit, if Crawford is healthy, and the Hawks have a top 15 PP, they are probably in the playoffs right now... This team has slowly checked out more and more as the season has gone on. They may very well reach a top 5 pick. That's a big reason that, once Q was brought back this season, I was a fan of just riding it right into ground. This season was the titanic heading right for the iceberg, and they've hit it. Let's watch this fucker sink. Hopefully right into a lottery pick. Yeah, I think we are agreeing its best to lose this season for a better future. And while I was a bit facetious, Im struggling to look on the bright side of the current roster. There is plenty of holes that a new attitude can fix like you suggested, but really, the hawks need 2 #1 pairing DMan to be competitive. Kieth's has been ridden hard and his time is short. 1st_____-_______ 2nd Keith -Seabrook 3rd Osterle - Murphy Rutta And until Toews can prove us different, Hawks need to be looking for a #1C as well. Id hate to do it, but Crawford is probably the best trade chip they have. And even then, you are looking for a goalie.

I get Pez's point about how a new voice can change things dramatically. But I don't know if that's this team's problem. Maybe that's the sort of thing to reignite Keith and Saad. But is that really the problem Toews and Seabrook are facing? Will a new voice make the rest of that AHL defense unit suddenly turn into NHLers? And there's still a huge lack of depth at forward in the bottom 6; even if you got the top 6 going, that would still be a weakness come playoff time.

I agree Seabrook needs a fountain of youth, not a new coach. The is no single easy solution to the problems this team faces.
As for now, the trade deadline is close. Who would fetch the most assets in a trade? Assuming no-one is untouchable, which I have to think at this point is a reality anyway.
Even NMC's can be waived if someone like Toews gets to go to a contender.

I missed the game and sounds like it was more of the same and not in the rarer and rarer good way.
Delete button on the PVR will be used in short order today...nothing to see here.

Hawks need to make the tough choice of trading Schmaltz and/or Debrincat to get rid of Seabrook. That contract is killing the team.
You can't do anything with Toews since no one will touch that turd pile at any price regardless of what the Hawks sweeten the pot with.
Saad's trade value is zero right now.
Only guy that is worth something is Crawford and his eggs are scrambled.
You have to entertain trading Kane but again who can absorb the cap hit without the Hawks taking back a sack of manure in return?
Stan Bowman has put this team in the ditch at the bottom of a cliff that Blackhawk mobile fell off of and a meteor is barreling towards that location at the speed of light.
I'd expect wholesale changes in upper management this offseason.
Rocky's inner Bill is about to come out, IMO.

And to any of the armdancers out there that think Hossa will return next season and the team will be fine.
You really think a 40 year old is gonna come back to this shit show for 1 million dollars when he has about 80 million in the bank?
LOL

Hawks will have to eat #7s contract a while longer (unless they can get a 4th), but they can't give away the best 2 young guys...CrOw would look good on the Island.

September of 2019 is the opt out of the current CBA. I think they pretty much always opt out, and renegotiate. You don't touch Schmaltz OR DeBrincat. Those are the only two potential 1st liners you have in the system right now. Schmaltz is looking more and more the part this season. Have him keep working with Coach Yanic on faceoffs. DeBrincat has 30 goal scorer written all over him. That wrist shot is fantastic.... I think those two are untouchable if you want to have ANY hope of being a contender again in the next 5 seasons. The cap is going to go up, Hossa's contract will probably be traded to Arizona. Even if it doesn't, they can spend that cap space. This is going to mitigate a lot of the Toews/Kane cap hits. Hawks will have $15M or so next season in cap space, before Hossa's LTIR. I have heard the cap is likely to be $78-82M.
