lets hear everyones thoughts on the arenas, and more importantly the experience around the barns in the nhl.
hawks? 0 around the u.c. and inside is normal.
flyers- aka bank of the month barn. p.o.s. inside. p.o.s. parking lot around it. fuck you philly.
rangers- never been inside really but anything in midtown has to be fun.
predators- probably best neighborhood i can think for a rink.
bolts- inside is normal cool. outisde currently under construction but 0 here.
devils- lol fuck both the old and new barn.. just like you would think newark. if you dont know newark... think robo cop.
blue jackets - nice barn besides the dumb cannon. kinda cool neighborhood around it.
pitt. - meh and meh immediately around barn but close to lots of stuff.
st louis... didnt get inside but that area looked super dicey during a cards game id hate to see it half full for hockey.
boston - not much around it in immediate area but downtown boston has no shortage of bars/fun.
denver- nothing around stadium for a block or two but denver is really really awesome, next neighborhood over was fun. gonna go back n check out game there asap.

Is your fun rating based on how many transvestite hookers you can find immediately outside each arena?

The only two out of town arena's I've been to was in LA and Minnesota but were the old venue's
LA Forum, what can I say it was in Inglewood Ca, not much different then our Englewood, property must have been cheap, so Jack Kent Cooke built it their.
Minnesota, Metropolitan Sports Center or Met Center if you like, was unique for its time, was built on top of hill so you walked down into it. It was actually in Bloomington Mn and not really near the Twin Cities, but was near the airport. Anyway it's gone along with Metropolitan Stadium (Twins/Vikings) and is now part of Mall of America property

I'm not a bar guy, but I thought the scene around the Air Canada Center was nice. Inside was ok, but the downside was that there always seemed to be a lot of Leafs fans around.
StL is a shithole, in and out. Supposedly they slapped a new coat of paint inside the arena. Whoopie. I don't know how that arena was already out of date the first season.
I haven't been to the Shitty Pizza Arena yet, but the Joe was Allstate Arena level in terms of amenities and ambiance. The neighborhood was awful, obviously. We were told to park in the official Joe parking structure, which was a mistake because it take an hour to get out.
MSG is crowded and feels really small. Some terrible sightlines.
I like Pittsburgh's new arena, but the North End isn't really too interesting, unless you want to hit on overpriced bar.

Agreed, STL downtown and the arena itself are total amateur hour, a real POS experience, but the Hawks won late so it worked out.
Nashville’s arena is nothing special, but it’s nice having the bars all on one street before/after the game, especially when the Hawks are in town.
Same thing in Phoenix, arena is small but nothing special. Lot of corporate entertainment outside but the location is in the middle of fucking nowhere and no one in AZ cares about hockey.
Have a trip planned to Philly next month when the Hawks are in town.
Other than that, would love to be able to see a game in Toronto or Montreal, with MSG coming in 3rd place on the list.

Bell Centre is the jewel of the NHL...it is comfortable and clean and bright with excellent amenities and sightlines.
I have been to about 30 rinks, so I cant go into then all.
Buffalo is honestly a great experience...rink is nothing special but always a great time...
Nashville is a hoot, but the rink is a large garden shed...
Was actually impressed with building in Columbus...nightlife is fantastic.
Calgary is a dump...vancouver dark and dingy and full of Canucks fan (but great city).
SJ...rink is a cookie cutter and nightlife absolutely sucks, but fans are nuts...intense atmosphere

Be wary when wearing your Hawks gear in Philly. You'd think the Hawks were in the Flyers division, though it was right after the first Cup. Took more verbal abuse there than anywhere else.
Old Nassau is/was a dump, but even that is far superior to where the Islanders are now. The fans didn't follow.
Tampa is a surpisingly good experience other than shitty ice.
Vancouver is the loudest stadium I've been in, and at the time the Canucks were not that good.
Raleigh isn't that great - fans seemed to enjoy the kiss-cam more than the game.
Wild arena in St. Paul is terrific IMO. Great walking city, winter or summer except for the homeless sleeping and peeing in the covered walkways.
I've not been in the San Jose stadium but stumbled into it looking for something else. Doesn't seem to be much around it.
I've never really liked the United Center, because I can't move past the old stadium and the advantage and noise that brought. Imagine 2010 playing at the old barn.

Man, I forgot I had been to Glendale. That place was the loudest arena I'd ever been at. Not because of crowd noise, obviously, but because they have their sound system at 11 to make up for the fact that the crowd blows. But parking was free, so that was a big win.

I love The inside of The UC been there 4 times 3 hockey 1 hoops. Although the seats are cramped and outdated. I love being in there great atmosphere.
Buffalo is fine although the locals think its a dump but it is cold in there almost kinda like being at the neighborhood youth rink chilly.
Been to Philly a few times, I really found nothing wrong with that but I've only been in Suites there, never sat with the locals.
Departed Rinks-MLG Awesome for Old Time Hockey Lore, Buff Aud.-Had the best site lines ever. No one could block your view. Cap Center, Igloo, Phillips Arena..

(they would have lost then so youre all welcome) i still wear my jersey, n dont let the idiots bother me. there is legit 0 besides xfinity live in a mile. so in summation fuck philly. idk what your plan is sbhawks, where your staying etc maybe i could throw some suggestions out on where to go.

Philly is a shithole city full of shithole people
Didnt mind the rink too much at all...except it was full of philly phans
Good transit access to and from game
Tbay is a pretty plain rink inside and out, but surprisingly comfy and good sightlines.

Only ever been to Nashville outside of the UC. Entire atmosphere of around the rink is pretty good actually. Inside is another story. Fang fingers? Their fanbase is like ECHL level.
