Jeez, Hawks could have had Machado for Oesterle and Dano apparently.

Went to the Brewers games and got my 1st look at Machado this week. What a player. This kid is no joke. That dodgers lineup is scary, and now Dave Roberts has flexibility with moving the defence around.

The Dodgers are the team to beat in the NL without question.
If the Cubs don’t acquire a top line starter their season is over. A bullpen arm will not cut it with this rotation.

It kills two birds with one stone, which is why I’m willing to part with players on the roster for DeGrom. Lester and him stop the rotation can at least save the pen to a degree.
I’m not expecting Darvish back this year, and even if he does come back he’s way too much of a basket case to rely on.

Cubs don't have the ammo in the farm to get DeGrom. Only way that would work is if they parted with Schwarber probably. Probably too high of a risk to send a rostered player on a cheap contract for a rental. If you could get DeGrom to sign an extension, I would part with Schwarber in a heartbeat. Only way I keep Schwarber long-term is if I know DH is coming to the NL.

Cubs could take a different direction and get another superb bullpen arm. Unless Hendricks and Quintana improve in the 2nd half, you could go into the playoffs only trying to get 3-4 innings out of them and then go bullpen by committee. Cubs' pen has been a strength this season. I think the Indians used their pen a lot in their run up to losing to the Cubs in 2016 so there is some precedence for that. Andrew Miller was a horse that year. Only problem is that deadline is a week away so you're gonna only get one start out of Hendricks and Q before having to make a decision.

Degrom would cost a lot more than Schwarber. More likely the Mets would be asking for Javi + or Contreras & like Happ.

Machado just hit his first HR as a Dodger. Its his 25th straight game safely reaching base.

The Cubs have a deal in place with the Texas Rangers to acquire veteran lefty Cole Hamels, pending medical reports. The Cubs made a "strong push" for him today after J.A. Happ was traded to the Yankees. Low minor player(s) are expected to go back to... espn.com/espn/now?nowId…
It’s not a game changer by any means, but it’s better than standing pat. The elephant in the room lately has to be the lack of pitching. When you’re chasing every single game it weighs on you, not to mention burning your bullpen starting in the 5th most days.
Who knows what happens with Darvish this year, that really could end up being an x-factor if he comes back anything like himself. I do not see him holding up mentally with this pressure though.

Cubs will likely target Cole Hamels, IMO. Expiring contract and all. From the horse's lips to God's ear.

I assume Chatwood will be put on the DL with a bad case of the yips to make room for Hamels in the rotation.
Do the Cubs need a BP pitcher? Duensing and his 7+ ERA can fill that position and excel.

Lester, Q, Hendricks, Hamels, and Darvish.
Potential to be great to be honest.
Hamels bounces back to form after getting out of Texas and in the thick of a pennant race.
Darvish is the key. They don't need him to be awesome just to be pitching and eating innings and giving the team a chance to win.
