Morrow scratched for the year. Morrow and Darvish. Nice work there, Theo. Wade Davis would look good still in Chicago, no?
Closer by committee it looks like with Strop also questionable for returning.
Next man up, bitches!

Best records mean nothing if you cant hit in October. Im scared to death of Boston and Huston. Good thing they are both in the American League.
BTW, Dodgers back in 1st.

AL will win the WS this year, those teams are much too deep for a watered down NL.

Theo has had too many whiffs in FA for the Cubs to be legit contenders. They can definitely beat up on the little sisters of the poor in the NL though.

Morrow should have been no surprise to anyone if you look at his history. He has a high end arm when he's healthy. He's seldom healthy. To me that was more of a stretch than Darvish.

The team is not generating high end pitching talent in its system. Even if you factor out the guys that were traded to upgrade pitching through trades, there are few if any higher end pitchers coming out of the Cubs system. Comparatively, and without much difference in drafting position at best, the Cardinals develop way more pitching than the Cubs, and have for a long, long time. Free agency is a crap shoot at best. And Davis hasn't been all that great this year either - it could be argued that Maddon worked into ruin both Chapman and Davis - they were much less when they left.

The cub model is not to develop high end pitching...Theo did the same thing in Bos...develop an overabundance of position players and then pay or trade for quality arms.
Developing pitching prospects is far more high risk/low reward.

Pitching is so fickle especially in the bullpen. Duensing was awesome last year, and now he sucks. It's a year by year thing for most guys.
The last big named pitcher in the draft was Strasburg, no? I don't think he's been close to what was advertised but that goes for the entire Nationals team so maybe he gets a break there.
White Sox got Rodon and Fulmer in recent drafts. Fulmer is a bust, and Rodon has been inconsistent like Gary's bowel movements.

I don’t have any problems with their strategy, and it all looks like a moot point had Darvish and Quintana (until recently) performed up to expectations. Agreed that bullpen is usually a crapshoot year by year.
