I wonder if Kyle Farnsworth would consider a comeback - he would be a perfect fit with this "no lead is safe" bullpen.

He should have been playing LB for the Bears.

Nice Kimbrel signing there, Theo.

A close follower of MLB told me when the Cubs signed him that Kimbrel was a bad signing and that his arm was shot. Boston knew it. He has done nothing since to refute that notion and, again, puts the Cubs in a tough spot with a ton of cash tied up into someone who cannot find his game. And yet they still keep winning....for now.

He's still throwing 95+. More like his head is shot. Theo must've figured they could 'fix' him.

Lucky for him there’s no fans at the games

I think "no fans" is helping players like Darvish, Chatwood, Heyward, etc...
If Kimbrel really is throwing 95+, there is hope. But only if he can throw at least one other pitch for strikers. There is also a chance that without the full month of preseason (again) he may not have his groove. Wick is probably the only other guy who might be able to fill that slot. Might...

Yeah it’s not at arm problem. He still brings the heat. I think he is fighting his breaking ball right now. Unless you are Chapman, you need to have confidence in a second pitch as a bullpen arm.

Kimbrel has time. In the utopian world he re-discovers his stuff just as the starting pitching staff reaches the inevitable wall on results. Of course the rest of the bullpen has to hold it until Kimbrel.
One thing I'm liking is the team doesn't seem to have that air about them that they can turn it on at any time to catch up. There is a sense of focus - I think it is more than the 60 game season.
It is also becoming evident that if they play to their ability, there won't be much competition beside Cincinnati unless the Cardinals can stay healthy (COVID and pitchers arms).

To be honest, they should stick with a 60 game season and expand the playoffs even when things return to normal. 162 games is way too many and many clubs can’t fill the seats as it is. Shorter season more weight on each game and more teams make the dance. Gary can still drink the same number of Old Style in a 60 game season that he has been in a 162 game season. It only takes about 2.7 extra cold ones a game.

Kimbrel starting to find his rhythm just in time for the offense to disappear.

Kimbrel starting to find his rhythm just in time for the offense to disappear. It's always something.
