Sox just completely outclassed.

You can't win many games scoring one run. And then LaRussa goes into his patented hit-by-pitch so I'm the center of attention routine.
The pitching is not where it needs to be, but you have to think the offense will do nothing but be better next year. This year Houston's offense was better. Though I think they will miss Madrigal. It doesn't make up for the Quintana fiasco, but I guess we can call it even. Please trade Tim Anderson to the North Side!!!

Houston’s core bats have been through this drill the last several seasons and it showed.
No reason the Sox can’t be there within the next few years.

What a shame to see Dusty’s team blow it on the big stage yet again.

Don't be expecting many of those Astros starting pitchers to avoid the DL next year. Sort of feel bad for Dusty. I don't think Soler's bomb last night has come back to earth yet.

Baez gets 6 yrs/$140M from Detroit.
Glad the Cubs passed on that.

Kind of tells you Baez’s perceived value across the league to sign a deal on one of the worst teams in the MLB.

The Cubs are back to 2013/2014 with the exception being the prospect cupboard is not as bare, but there isn't much indication that there is a ton of pitching prospects that are so desperately needed.
It makes zero sense to keep Contreras (probably why they signed Gomes) or Hendrix for that matter. Hendrix is not a "build around" starting pitcher. IMO the money being shelled out for some of these guys is pretty insane.
And learn from the mistakes of the past, Jed. It is better to pass on marginal pitchers who happen to be free agents than to saddle yourself with Edwin Jackson, Chatwood, etc. Let's really suck for a couple of years and build up more talent.
And do not answer the phone when Scott Boras calls. Fast forward those calls to St. Louis.

Oh and this - no free agent who wants to win is coming to Chicago any time soon, at least on the north side.

Many players want to sign before CBA expires. Otherwise there will be a work stoppage.

I agree Contreras should be dealt this year at some point. Probably TDL. Hendricks needs to rebound before I would consider trading him. Plus it would be good to keep him around to help mentor the younger pitchers.
