I agree Contreras should be dealt this year at some point. Probably TDL. Hendricks needs to rebound before I would consider trading him. Plus it would be good to keep him around to help mentor the younger pitchers. Gomes is 35 and their top Catching prospect is having Tommy John. Should keep Contreras at least to TDL, unless bowled over.

I am glad they are not spending given some of the ridiculous contracts like Seager, Semien, Baez, soon to be Correa.
They are not competing anytime soon and they do not need to pull a Stan Bowman and make any unnecessary splashes ala Seth Jones/MAF.

Jed can always sign Hawkdad. He’s a pro at catching.

Some of these teams are going to confirm in the next couple of years that they remain middling franchises, and now they will be saddled with Jason Heyward level salary albatrosses around their necks. Detroit at least has some young pitching prospects. Texas is a city where starting pitchers go to be lit up. The Angels are completely wasting Trout...and now Ohtani.

I'm sorry - if Wade Miley is the answer to any of your pitching questions (let alone the #2 starter), keep that salary dump machine in overdrive.

It will be a real horse race to see which of the Blackhawks, Cubs or Bears will be the worst Chicago sports franchise in the next three or four years.

That…helps?

Edwin Jackson was a big signing for the rotation 10 years ago too.

Racist?
Like the fact it’s only 3 years. Lines up with potential rebuilding effort. Don’t need another Heyward situation.

Stroman will help, no doubt. Definitely better pedigree than Edwin Jackson.

Over/under on whether the Cubs will have more losses than the White Sox have wins?
The Cubbies could be really, really bad this year. Only being in the Central division will save them from 100 losses IMO. And it really doesn't make sense to sign a whole bunch of free agents. Way too many holes to fill, starting with the pitching staff.
