Mets’ payroll is like 500 million. Time for someone to go shopping...

Taking a chance on Hosmer is extremely low risk, not sure why fans are moaning about this move. The guy still has pedigree, has something to prove, the shift change helps and neither of the two current alternatives are good defensively. With very minimal risk. Hosmer's analytics haven't been great defensively either, but he does have four gold gloves. He does run the risk of having a Jason Heyward bat, but at this price range he can bring some other quality intangibles to the team. Hopefully the pitching staff can keep the ball in the park. And now he is not playing 81 games in San Diego where offense often goes to die.

Cubs are paying league minimum since Padres still owe him the remaining balance on his former contract. Very low risk move. If he sucks, you DFA him and write off the beer sales for one game.

Maybe baseball will be a welcome relief to this dismal Blackhawks season, which cannot end too soon.
The White Sox have most of the same pieces in place and would have a hard time underperforming as badly as they did last year - we'll find out how big a boat anchor LaRussa was in the clubhouse/dugout.
The Cubs will be better, but with the schedule changes (i.e. less Pittsburgh and Cincinnati) may not see it in the standings. If one or two pitchers really do emerge out of the development pool as rotation stalwarts, it will be something to build on. If not, the pitching seems to be way overrated.
Not watching the pitchers and hitters grooming themselves before every pitch will be welcome.

Both teams should be meh. Probably play .500 ball most of the year and look forward to who gets traded at the deadline.

The Bellinger experiment looks like a bust. Nothing in 3 games.
