Sox with their 10th loss in a row last night after taking a no hitter into the 7th with a 3 run lead.
They’ll probably have to start giving away beer for free to get fans to start showing up at this rate.

Sox fans are so depressed that they are drinking Bud Light.

Cubs pitching clearly will come back to Earth. Even with a surprising start they are 3rd in the division. They could be a wild card team but pitching would be lights out the entire season. I still think they will and should be sellers. The good news is Bellinger is on pace for 40 HR and 100 RBI. Wisdom, Happ, and Belly should all be movable assets.

Agreed that the Cubs pitching isn't playoff caliber, not without some guys coming up and being lights out. Miami has good starting staff, so the results there were not as awful as they appear on the surface, but the Cubs bullpen is not deep enough (and likely to be in over-use mode by August) to stay all year with the Brewers or Cardinals unless both have multiple major injuries. Pittsburgh's pitching won't hold up either, other than Bednar.
It is only a matter of when the Cubs promote Mervis. If he continues what he is doing in Iowa, he may be up to stay. If he struggles, the leash will be short. Because it can be.
Hopefully Suzuki can both stay healthy and produce, especially with better hitters around him.

If they’re hovering in contention for that 3rd wild card spot, which I assume they will be, I can’t see them trading any of the above names.

Yes, I agree they won’t white flag anything, but to stay in contention will require the pitching to maintain this pace which is impossible.

Looking around the league all the former core of Cubs are pretty blah. None on good teams either. Bryant is hitting well but only 8 RBI. Schwarber average at 0.200 per usual. Baez OPS below .600. Rizzo maybe the only guy they actually miss.

Definitely dodged a huge bullet when Baez turned down something like $180M a few years ago

Sox 2 game win streak comes to an end. Tim Anderson leads the meltdown with 2 errors while Minny scores 5 in the top of the 12th.

Dodged another bullet with Contreras who isn’t even a catcher in St. Louis anymore. Jimenez also out for 4-6 weeks, but when isn’t he?

More important than the wins and losses this year is the development of Steele and Wesneski. It is still too early to conclude, but there are positive signs. When was the last time the Cubs had any positive signs on a minor league starting pitcher?
