The big problem with the Hawks is that there aren't any small fixes you can make to turn the ship around. The core itself is the problem requiring a fix. Swapping marginal contributors won't help.
In this regard, the Sabres are actually ahead of the Hawks. They have Jack Eichel. Someone to build around. That's a major piece to a core. The Hawks don't even have that. Just a core that's stinking up the place, and gets worse by the month. The more you wait, the worse it gets. If you want ONE MORE RUN, it's the desperate last call right now, where you can maybe try and add veterans at the deadline (IF the Hawks are around the bubble in February). But can you imagine Toews, Keith & Seabrook next season? It might be too late to even make a run at a playoff spot.

Hjalmarsson, Hossa and Shaw made the Hawks difficult to play against for different reasons. Subtract those three and add.........there you have it...

Hossa is by far the biggest loss. By far. You simply cannot replace a player of that caliber. He's one of a kind.

This is true...On the other hand, if they have any guys that like to hit in Rockford, bring them up...Even if they lose, it'll at least be entertaining. And perhaps harder on the opposition.

I would also not write this team off until there is a coaching change... Pittsburgh and LA are great examples of teams that were completely rejuvenated with a new coach.
Q is definitely the wrong coach for this team, as constructed. And the wrong coach for the NHL as it exists...as well.

Hawks had 13 sog but they should have had 20. too many cutsie passes. I know this Sabres team, keep shooting on them. Sooner or later Lehner will cough up a bad goal.

The PP alone is reason enough to shitcan every fucking retard on this coaching staff. I have seen fucking 10 year olds run a better PP.

The core's collapse notwithstanding, the Hawks have nearly 9 million in cap tied up in Hossa's LTIR and Panarin's bonus overage. That's two solid players right there spread out evenly. Stan used Hossa's LTIR to sign Cody Franson. Nothing against Franson since he's played well, but it seems Stan was caught completely off guard by Hossa's decision to retire since he only used 1 million of it. Unless the decision was to see if Hossa wanted to play again next year meaning that Stan couldn't do anything long-term with the cap space? Nonetheless, did the Hawks even kick the tires on Jagr who is basically on a one year deal for eternity now? I mean the PP is so bad that's one guy that probably could make it better.

I was suggesting Jagr earlier this off-season. Not that he makes the team infinitely better, but I can't help but feel he would have helped the offense more than Franson is helping the defense.

Wow well I have to say that was the best The Sabres have played all year. Lehner played great. I was all set to write The Hawks Eulogy. We will put that on ice for now.

Hey, at least the Hawks can still beat the Sabres. Forsling is gonna be a nice player with more experience. I say Stan should lock up him at 3.5 million for the next 5 years right now.

Sabres D-man Ristolainen #55 with best screen of Lehner all night. Forsling buries it....good for him. Hawks win 3-2 OT.

Forsling really reminds me of a young Duncan Keith. He's fantastic. He and DeBrincat have been the only real bright spots this season.

Forsling doesn't have Keith's defensive prowess. I see Forsling more like a poor man's OEL.
