I think in the future this type of circumventing will be banned. But if there isn't a clause stating its illegal, you have to let it stand.

Will Dodgers get charged the entire $70millonz each year? No, otherwise why would Ohtani do it? He did this so they can keep the team strong with other good players. Much easier to do if it’s only two milz a year on the books for him. Rule will Change but this contract will stand, most likely.

Really the Dodgers make out like bandits. With inflation, they will be paying Ohtani 680 million in future Biden bucks. 10 years from now with an average annual rate of inflation between 3-4 %, the Dodgers save 30-40 % meaning the actual value today is somewhere between 408-476 million. If inflation is greater, Ohtani will end up getting paid about 10 bucks in today’s dollars.

Why wouldn't he take more than 2 mil, say 20 mil per year and put it in some sort of retirement fund that collects interest? This dude is a saint.

Ohtani banked something like 45 million in endorsement deals last year alone likely most of it back in Japan. The next closest guy was Mike Trout who took in 5 million. This contract is just his pension when he retires.

Every team in the league took a hard lesson from the Dodgers. This is rcazy. "In an effort to enable the Dodgers to continue spending around stars Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, Ohtani agreed to defer all but $2 million of his annual salary — $68 million of his $70 million per year — until after the completion of the contract. The deferred money is to be paid out without interest from 2034 to 2043." ...and then move to FL or TX with no state income tax when hes 40
smart

Bellinger blinked and Cubs get him back for essentially 1 year.

It is a no-lose for the Cubs. They need his bat and if he has another season like the last one, they could have a different view of a longer term commitment. It gives them flexibility to not rush Crow-Armstrong, and they can deal prospects for pitching, which remains the weak point unless/until/if some of the kids are really that good. Plus it is likely that Steele will not repeat last year in the current one (sophomore "league figures them out" is almost a guarantee in year 2 unless the guy is throwing 95+, which Steele is not).
The entire lineup just became a lot stronger.
If the Pirates can ever keep together a decent starting pitching staff, the division will be no walkover.
It should be a fun summer on the North Side.

Cease to Padres. Not sure there's another young mustache to take his place.

Has MLB finally found its next Pete Rose scandal? Something like what’s happening with Ohtani was inevitable with how intertwined sports gambling has become with all of the leagues. Likely much more going on underground that hasn’t been exposed yet.
