Interpreter is the fall guy. Ohtani has a gambling problem.

Two 8-0 blown leads from the Cubs in just the last week, that’s got to be some kind of record?

Counsell didn’t bring the Brew Crew bullpen with him.

Counsell didn’t bring the Brew Crew bullpen with him. True. Starters have been pretty good.

The Cubs should be entertaining and playoff relevant in their division. It will probably come down to wearing out the bullpen again (guys like Merriweather missing time now may be a blessing in disguise long-term). If Hendricks continues to pitch like a bullpen killer, that weakness will come out in spades sooner than later. The Cubs do have a strong defensive team overall, and that has to help whatever pitchers they have out there. Keeping an eye on Bellinger - he has to be a rock in the middle of the order, if for no other reason it takes pressure off the rest. Busch has done more at first base in two weeks than all last year's 1st basemen not named Bellinger did all last year.

Just treading water right now but as the old saying goes you can’t make the playoffs in April but you can miss them in April.

The rotation hasn’t been much better with all of the short outings. Hendricks looks over the hill. Hopefully getting Steele and Taillon back will help stabilize things.

Injuries but also wins are piling up. Please shoot Hendricks into the sun.

CC seems to thrive in these situations where he can deploy his inner Joe Maddon (thankfully a subdued one) and mix/match lineups and position changes to his heart's content. We will now see if Busch, Morel and Mervis can pick up the slack while Cody recovers from hopefully his perfunctory "injury a year" for this year. In a division where every other team has an identified shutdown closer, that will likely remain an achilles heel unless Alzolay fixes his mechanical issue. But the ride is fun as the only current Chicago team that is even within sight distance of relevant.

Alzolay has the stuff of a 7th inning guy. All serious contenders have their 8th/9th inning shutdown guys throwing upper 90’s.
At least some of the younger arms from Iowa (Little, Brown) seem to be bringing some heat.

Hard to see this team being anymore than a middling .500 and WC 2/3 contender this year.
Bats have been ice cold for the last 2-3 weeks and there still isn’t a single dependable arm in the bullpen, which has managed to blow 7 games when leading entering the 8th inning.
Milwaukee hasn’t missed a beat without Counsell and trading Burnes in the offseason.
