I don't think it was his choice, Gary. There had been rumors since the end of the season that Hickey was on his way out. Seems like Maddon's & Theo's relationship is bad but Theo doesn't want to take the PR hit of forcing Maddon out, that they'll just let his contract expire next year.

I hope they didn't blame Hickey for Chatwood. He sucked before he got here.

He didn't suck but I agree that Hickey didn't do anything wrong. If anything, I thought Hickey deserved credit for keeping that bullpen working well.

I'm not even sure why you need a pitching coach. Better to hire a sports psychologist or something instead. When a pitcher goes off the rails, it's usually mental not anything physical.

White Sox flabbergasted that Machado spurned the "best offer on the table" for San Diego. I mean when is 250 million guaranteed better than 300 million guaranteed? South side math? Nonetheless, when will the White Sox come to terms that Machado would have picked ABTWS (anyone but the White Sox) even if they were offering him 500 million. The White Sox have no fans and the team is run by possibly the worst owner in professional sports these days.

I for one NEVER thought he was coming, and sure as hell aren't bothered in the slightest that it's a done deal now. He was ALWAYS using the Sox offer to up the ante. Machado is the Dwight Howard of MLB. And now he can hide in San Diego where NOTHING matters. It's perfect for him. He got the big contract, he can still be Manny and not have to worry about leading a damn thing. He's with the Padres, they won't be playing for anything that counts anytime soon, and he's fine with it.

That's an odd rant, Dad. He took the place that gave him the most money. If the Yanks or Dodgers had stepped up and not pretended that they have a smaller budget than they really do, I'm sure he would have been happy to play there.

Machado didn't want to have to compete with the Fire for viewership/exposure in Chicago. I understand.

Harper goes to Philly for 13/$330M.
No chance he is still there in 6 years IMO

39 years old when contract is over. Will he still be able to swing a bat at that age? I don't get it. What if he was "only" offered 30mil per year does he pull a L'evon Bell and sit out? What happens when Mike Trout is available in 2 years? I guess the owners have the scratch. I know in Philly attendance has been down last few years. I'm sure the place will start filling up again. Beautiful ball park BTW.
