Harper goes to Philly for 13/$330M. No chance he is still there in 6 years IMO No opt-out clause...At his age, I wouldn't have gone past 6 yrs.

No opt out & no trade clause. Guess he really likes the Rocky statue. Doesn't make sense..At best, no more contracts...At worst, he's in Philly til I'm dead.

Will be fun when Arrieta punches him in the face in the dugout.

Will be fun when Arrieta punches him in the face in the dugout. I would pay to see that.

Nice opening weekend dropping 2 of 3 to the hapless Rangers.
Offense looks like it may be good again, but the starting staff and bullpen are atrocious. Kimbrell remains unsigned but the Rickett$ are “broke”.
Going to be a long, sad season on the north side I predict.

Meanwhile in Toronto the jays starters give up zero runs in four games. Zero. And they still lost two of them.
Doesn't matter the franchise is going to the WS once Vlad Guerrero jr comes up!!!
At least that's what all the Canadian sports networks have been telling me for six months.
The hype machine for a team that is likely to finish with 70 wins is embarrassing. The gm came out and said "well, we won't be measuring our success this year by number of wins." What??!

Ricketts never said he was broke. The Cubs, and pretty much every other team, treat the luxury tax threshold as a hard cap. Hopefully Tony Clark and the MLBPA put on their big boy pants before going to the upcoming CBA talks and fix that problem.

He may not have said it explicitly, but they are certainly acting like they are.
I will concede that I’d be hesitant letting Theo spend more with all the wasted money on Heyward, Darvish, Chatwalk and Morrow.

I was at the Saturday night game myself. No need to go heading for ANY ledge with our team. We are going to be just fine. Gonna score plenty, and with a rotation of Lester/Darvish/Hamels/Hendricks/Q it will easily be the division's best, even if or when they have to put Darvish on the IR because his feelings are hurt. The bullpen does need some help but Theo will come up with something down the road a bit. I think winning the WS a couple years back made us very greedy. We have the team to get back there again. Be patient. 159 games still left...

Be patient. 159 games still left... This. Plenty of time and the offense still looks lights out. But last night's defensive effort had better be an outlier. Also, the fact that the Cubs signed Darvish and Chatwood last year to huge/big dollar contracts is 100% on Theo. If I was Ricketts I would also hold their feet to the fire. And start developing some f-ing pitchers that can supplement the bullpen. I love the offensive guys the Cubs picked up - great job. To not develop a single pitcher (outside of trades) that has made any impact is a big reason the Cubs were one and done. If that doesn't change, they are flying into a 100 knot headwind long-term, no matter how many home runs they hit.
