and as far as Schmaltz goes...him producing points playing with Kane isnt really news...or a huge accomplishment...pretty much any middle-of the-road player can do that...see Anisimiov... Even you have to admit that Schmaltz is improved over last year...And not just from playing with 88. absolutely

Which is exactly why you don't tie up 4.55 a year in AA to NOT play with Kane anyways. Let Schmaltz make 925K to rack up some points with Kane and sign Sikura and let him, Kampf, or even Hino battle for the #3 center on an entry level deal. Take the 3.6ish per you save by not having AA as your #3 and invest it in a guy that can play D instead of bringing in a late (aka probably never into what we need) blooming Euro Dman. Lets see if we can trade Hossa's contract at the draft to a team that don't give a shit about competing and or needs some help getting to the cap floor (ie Arizona who may have a dumber GM then us) and maybe we can add a winger that can put some pucks in the net too (or hell go crazy and figure out a top pairing D with AA and Hossa money and then we'll actually have one instead of just the ghost of Keith).

Wonder if vegas would take hossa? Why the hell would they do that? Putting aside they already have a bunch of dead money on their call, if they are going to be adding salary at the deadline, it'll be players to help their playoff run.

They seemed to have jumped instantly into near-contender mode. That's not the sort of team that takes on dead weight in the following off-season.

They would be foolish to believe they are contenders and abandon 'the plan'...there could be possible value to them taking dead salary...especially the way stan operates.

I would think Vegas is definitely an option. They have 14 millionz in dead money rolling off the books in Garrison, Grabovski, Stoner and Emelin's retension. Their committed payroll for next year is 42.645 with the cap floor probably coming in in the 58-60 million range. Their UFAs in Sbisa (3.6), Neal (5), Perron (3.75) are all pretty well paid and are not going to command a significant increase over their current rate (Neal seems about right, Perron might get a bump based on a career year and Sbisa probably ain't getting 3.6 or they'll find someone else to do what he does for a bit less...net result is probably close to a wash). RFA's Karlsson, Theodore, and Miller likely double or triple their salaries depending on term they agree to, but that doesn't move the needle that much. I can see them dipping into UFA's this Summer for a guy or two, but in the end they are no where near the cap ceiling next year or the year after that and the last year of Hossa's deal is at best a maybe starting to sniff the top of the cap.
If Hossa's contract is not insured for being allergic to not making much money, the cost to spend 1 million a year to take on a caphit of 5.275 is meaningless to a team like Vegas that is not going to spend to the cap ceiling anyways. The "future considerations" they owe us from flipping TVR and Kruger into a 2nd and 5th round pick plus another pick or prospect should be plenty to lose that cap hit off our books. This isn't trading Bickell who is going to be playing (crappy) and getting paid real money for several years. This is a guy owed 3 million and a chance for Vegas to "buy" a draft pick or prospect.

Why would the Hawks need to trade Hossa?
Unless you expect Stan to sign big money UFA's in July.
A proper rebuild means younger players on ELC's. No need to dump salary to gain cap space. You KEEP your negative value contracts, because trading them means pissing away assets as sweeteners.
